Who Designed The Art Print?

Meet artist Emily May. Best known by her alter ego ‘The Nonsense Maker’, she lives rogue in a world ruled by pure imagination. By day you can spot her caffeine fuelled and roaming the inner lane ways of Melbourne, by night she explored secret passageways winding to worlds only accessible in dreams. From these worlds she conjures her images, captured where dreaming meets reality and the nonsensical is in limitless bloom.

More About This Art Print

This whimsical wall art print titled ‘Fish Scales’ from the Hidden Below set has been hand illustrated using fine liner pens, digitally coloured, and printed in Melbourne by The Nonsense Maker. Available in A4 and A3 size, the highly detailed drawing portrays a large blue fish with a big shiny eye and large pouty lips. Each scale on the fish’s body is itself a tiny fish head, facing int the opposite direction. The body of the fish has a blue, green and yellow water colour wash through it, giving the effect of it shimmering underwater. Similarly to the other art prints in the Hidden Below set, there is a plain pale blue circle positioned behind the fish in great contrast to the detailed pen work of the illustration. Inspired by a dreamlike world where little is what it seems, this art print has a water themed colour palette, using mostly blues, bust also green and yellow to create the shiny underwater effect.

The Nonsense Maker’s ‘Fish Scales’ art print is hand made in Melbourne using all Australian suppliers. Beginning with a pencil sketch before moving to pen, a method called crosshatching is used to create the depth and the tone you see in the final design. This fine line art is then scanned into a computer and coloured digitally. All our art prints are printed on the highest quality paper with fade-resistant pigment ink, giving them the same life span as a painting.

Wall art prints are an expression of yourself and are the perfect way to make a space uniquely your own. Framed art is about finding the right balance of size, colour and composition, and it can be tricky. If you are feeling a little lost on how to frame art prints, check out our blog page for our best tips for decorating with wall art.

The Nonsense Maker’s Australian art prints are imagined from a fun and whimsical world where dreaming meets reality. Sometimes silly and sometimes sad, inspired by etching techniques used by old time illustrators. While the handmade greeting cards have much less detail, the book art prints can take up to 60 hours to create. Each of The Nonsense Maker’s wall art prints come packaged with a vintage book inspired backing board, and a short story of the inspiration behind the print.
