This whimsical ‘One Birthday Cake’ first birthday greeting card has been hand illustrated using fine liner pens, digitally coloured, and printed in Melbourne by The Nonsense Maker. The highly detailed drawing portrays a five layered birthday cake in the shape of a number one. Between each layer is a different coloured pastel frosting, and a number one candle sits on the top of the cake. Inspired by a dreamlike world where little is what it seems, this first birthday card has a pastel colour palette, using beige, pale purple, yellow, orange, pink, and multicoloured sprinkles.

The Nonsense Maker’s ‘One Birthday Cake’ first birthday card is hand made in Melbourne using all Australian suppliers.

Beginning with a pencil sketch before moving to pen, a method called crosshatching is used to create the depth and the tone you see in the final design. This fine line art is then scanned into a computer and coloured digitally. All our birthday cards are ethically printed on high quality recycled paper, and our envelopes are 100% recycled.

We often have customers let us know they love our greeting cards but struggle to think of things to write in them, and they are certainly not alone there! Check out our blog page for our top tips on what to write in a birthday card.

The Nonsense Maker’s unique birthday card designs are imagined from a fun and whimsical world where dreaming meets reality. Sometimes silly and sometimes sad, inspired by etching techniques used by old time illustrators. While The Nonsense Maker’s art prints often have finer details, the birthday cards and quirky stationery are usually an easy cheerful expression designed to bring a smile to your face.
