Gifts for Book Lovers FAQs

If someone already has more books than shelf space, look for gifts that celebrate their love of reading without adding another one to the pile. Things like framed book art prints, illustrated stationery, tea towels, and calendars built around classic stories.

That's the whole idea behind this collection. Gift the well loved tales of Alice in Wonderland or Pride and Prejudice, reimagined as hand-illustrated wall art or homewares. Drawn in an old-world storybook style and printed in Melbourne. A little nonsense for the walls or bookshelf can go a long way.

Look for something they wouldn't buy for themselves. A decorative piece inspired by a specific book or character they love!

A framed art print works well as a gift for the book lover who has everything. Ours are drawn by hand in fine liner pen, built up with old-world inspired crosshatching, and printed on cotton fine art paper, so they appear more like a page from an Victorian storybook than an everyday print off a shelf. It becomes a much loved keepsake they will want to keep forever.

You don't need to spend much to get this right. A greeting card starts at $7.50, and an illustrated A5 notepad is $22, both carrying the same hand-drawn detail as the larger prints in a smaller, more affordable format.

  • Under $10: a book-themed greeting card, sweet on its own or tucked in with something else
  • Between $10 - $15: a quirk book themed drink coaster for holding a hot cuppa
  • Around $20 to $25: the illustrated notepad, useful as well as pretty
  • From $35: a framed classic literature art print or art tea towel, for when you want to give totally something fun and unique.

Look for pieces that are actually made in Australia rather than imported in bulk. This whole collection is designed and hand-illustrated by an artist in Melbourne, drawn by hand rather than generated by AI, and printed in-house.

Absolutely they do!

Here are some reasons why these make great gifts to send (or take) abroad:

  • Lightweight for low cost shipping - this is especially important when sending gifts internationally!
  • Unbreakable so you can be sure it will survive the journey in one piece.
  • Easy to send in a regular post bag - not too big, not awkwardly shaped.
  • Made by an Australian artist making them a perfect Australian souvenir.

Maybe most importantly, they solve the classic gifting dilemma: how do you send something that feels special, thoughtful, and not generic? Unlike many other Australian souvenirs, our quirky products are uniquely hand illustrated by an actual artist, so each one carries a little piece of Australia with it.

For more lightweight, easy to send, Australian made gift ideas take a look at our art tea towels, coasters and magnets!

The whimsical artwork on all of The Nonsense Makers products is hand illustrated by our very own Melbourne based artist Emily May. Emily is inspired by her love of old-time story books, and bringing a touch of nostalgic whimsy into the everyday.
