Meet Melbourne Artist Emily May

Emily May is a self-taught artist with an affinity for the peculiar, and a love of making nonsense.

Her artwork is finely hand-illustrated, creating beautiful images from thousands of tiny pen strokes. Inspired by old-world whimsey and vintage storybooks, Emily creates her playful, nostalgic pieces by blending her imaginary world with the modern day.

Animal Artwork FAQs

Our animal artworks are entirely artist created using a peculiar combination of traditional pen illustration, and digital colouring.

Every animal art print starts with artist Emily May sketching out her design in pencil, before building up the illustration using a technique called crosshatching, layering thousands of tiny pen strokes to create form and tone. Emily then scans the drawing and colours it digitally. It's this etching-inspired line work with bold, modern colour that makes her animal artwork so distinctive, and gives them a playful yet uniquely nostalgic feel.

Creating a gallery wall with our animal artwork is easy because they are designed to live together. Every piece shares the same hand illustrated style, vibrant colour palette, and whimsical old-world aesthetic, meaning you can mix and match without ever feeling out of place.

Begin by choosing a handful of your favourite animal characters and lay them out on the floor before committing anything to the wall. Play with the arrangement until it feels just right.

Mixing different art print sizes is the secret to a gallery wall that feels fun and quirky. A great way to start is by placing a large artwork in the centre (A2 or A3 size), then have any smaller artworks radiating out from there!

Online - The easiest way to browse and buy our full range of animal artworks is right here in our online shop. You can explore the entire collection, choose your size, and have your art print safely shipped straight to your door from our Melbourne studio.

In Store - Our animal artworks are available in selected gift stores around Australia. Send us a message through our contact page and we can point you in the right direction!

You bet they are! Here's why:

The ink - printed with rich, vibrant, high quality ink that will not fade over time.

The paper - printed on bespoke fine art 308gsm cotton paper with a beautiful matt finish.

The packaging - wonderful thick cardboard backing with gold foil, much like those found on a hard cover book. It's here you can also find a whimsical poem about the inspiration behind the animal artwork!

Absolutely not! We print all of our art prints in house with a special kind of pigment ink, giving them the same lifespan as a painting!

Our art prints come in a few standard sizes:

  • A5 art prints (Smallest)
  • A4 art prints
  • A3 art prints
  • A2 art prints (biggest)

Hint: A4 is a standard piece of printer paper!

A great way to find which art print size works best for you is to measure the wall or frame you have in mind, then use a piece (or pieces) of paper to visualise the artwork in that space.

Our smaller prints are perfect for shelves, desks, and cosy corners, while larger sizes make a statement above a sofa or bed.
